Mussels, Moonshine, and Music: Mississippi Valley Migrant Life in the Early Twentieth Century with Illinois Humanities Road Scholar, Dennis Strounghmatt. Join us for a voyage to discover the work of the river-based mussel shellers, moonshiners, and musicians that worked across Illinois in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The Blind Swine Speakeasy brings local history and culture to the community, in a cross between an event and exhibit. The raw space, once used as a garage, is an authentic 1930s era speakeasy experience. It’s a perfect location to tackles the complex issues around the 18th amendment –all while enjoying music and a, now legal, beverage. The museum’s raw space, once used as a garage, will be open for an authentic 1920s era speakeasy experience. Held the first and third Fridays from June 7th through October 4th, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Each event will have a different theme related to the era. Stop by and check out the museum’s Garage Sale with Jeff Holtz. We have A LOT of vinyl records that have been donated over the years and we’re selling ‘em! Don’t worry, we will keep a selection for the museum’s collection and all proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase archive materials for the collection.
