Western Illinois Museum: Current Exhibit
Shared Images: Recording and Collecting a Visual History
September 20 - December 20, 2011
Every picture tells a story. Shared Images explores what a community and individuals collect and share to inform our history. Whether it is school photos, wedding photos or documentation of historic events, we all have an inherent need to record and collect visual details of our lives. We use them to tell a family’s history, remember experiences and document our lives. Images from our region will be shown alongside well known images of our country’s history evoking memories and confirming the relevance of our visual history. The exhibit includes a history of local photographic studios such as Laure Gaites, as well as artifacts from the museum’s camera and photography collections.
